When the spinning is done, open the XP folder, select all files, and click on Extract. Open the Downloads folder and double click on the zip folder (or right click on it and left click on Open with Archive Manager). I don't know for sure, but I seem to recall that someone suggested the XP driver is the safer bet for compatibility. The Windows driver for your Linksys AE2500 you can get here. You will see that this program is not included in Cinnamon, but you can install it with Synaptic. In Synaptic Package Manager do a search for ndisgtk. I suggest you install ndisgtk which will give you a GUI interface for the driver installation. Yes, ndiswrapper is already installed in Cinnamon. They may even tell you to ignore everything in this message. People who know a lot more than I do will correct me where I am wrong. I have only been using Linux for a couple of months and I don't really know how to accomplish specifically what you want, but I am going to make some guesses and maybe some of this will get you closer. For example, all that junk in the Terminal you are asking about are modifications for commands. It is super fussy.Seems to me you need more detailed answers to your questions. It will connect with Windows XP but if you turn off your PC and later power up -turn on- please expect not to get connected anytime soon. Could be possible my desktop is too old and unable to synchronize the data speed rate to any wireless signal until magic happens. I'm not sure what causes the AE2500 and Windows XP not to play nice with each other. Not a big deal but would of been nice that the AE2500 would connect instead of being random as in One connect in 100 attempts or waiting 30 minutes to many hours before it decides "Oh! I miraculously decided to connect when you were not looking ". I had revived the Compaq Presario so I can use my HP ScanJet 5370c - scanner since HP never updated Drivers for Vista, Win7, Win8.1 and Win10. The only major problem I have is with my old 2002 Compaq Presario desktop with Windows XP Pro 32bit. In a couple years I will update to AC, as N will become obsolete. Also at times might of been a result of a Thunder Storm/ weather interference. Cause of dropped internet connection is unknown but possibly a Server issue with the Internet Service Provider own servers. It has always been reliable and only had a few disconnects " loss of signal" occurrence each year. I've had this Linksys "Cisco" AE2500 for better than 6 years.

Not true ! Works very well with Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Someone stated that this does not work with Windows 10. Works very well except not with Windows XP Pro SP3
